John Hancock lists factor small cap ETF

John Hancock is listing a new ETF in New York that brings smart beta to US small caps, the John Hancock Multifactor Small Cap ETF (JHSC).

JHSC tracks an in-house index made of US small caps. To qualify as a small cap, companies must be small enough to have a market cap below the 750th biggest US company, but big enough not to fall within the smallest 4% of companies.

Companies are then chosen and weighted using a multifactor approach, which looks at their market cap, relative price, and profitability. “Securities with relatively high prices and low profitability are generally excluded from the Index. Securities that are selected for inclusion in the Index are subject to a cap of 4% on a single company at the time of reconstitution,” the prospectus says.
