Goldman tries to become a thematic ETF provider

Goldman Sachs is joining the thematic ETF rush, launching a transparent actively managed future tech ETF. The Goldman Sachs Future Tech Leaders Equity ETF (GTEK) will buy global technology companies with market capitalisations below $100B.

 

Companies are chosen based on qualitative and quantitative measures. Qualitatively, Goldman hunts for companies with genuinely better technology that are at tipping points in their growth. Quantitatively, it looks for companies posting sustainable growth and strong fundamentals.

 

It will invest 50/50 between US and ex-US companies. Emerging markets companies will take up to one-third of the portfolio. Looking through the portfolio, the major areas the fund has targeted are semiconductors, cloud and fintech.
